As shown by the image, I used a Kubota to dig the initial hole. If using a shovel you would simply dig straight down and not three feet wide.

Step One: Dig a hole until you feel confident. If you have Rocky, sandy, or other types of Terrain you may require alternate methods to meet surviving high wind confidence.

Step Two: Place the included vertical steel into the ground and use a sledge hammer or post-hole driver, or tamp (or whatever works for you) to drive the steel further into the ground beyond the depth that you dug.

Optional Step Three: With the steel firmly in place, you have the option to add concrete into the hole, i've just never encountered a situation where it was necessary.

Step Four: Using a couple of wrenches install the included trussing frame members using the hardware included in your Kit.

Step Five: Install the Solar Panels included in your Kit and put the dirt back into the hole (tamping it firmly in place will expedite the suction that will draw the soil further down into the hole after a few rains or seasons).

For this larger Solar Array I followed up using a hand-shovel to dig the smaller hole inside of my bigger hole (where the steel is dropped in and tamped in place). For this particular array I needed a Ladder (you would not need such large vertical steel or a ladder for the shorter "Low-Rider Solar Panel Kits").
