Grapes being cleaned in SpringfieldThere are several types of grapes harvested at our Springfield homestead. Shown are two types grown in 2022.
Cleaning Mulberries Everything harvested is flash frozen and saved for the winter consumption (usually in the form of drinks).
Drying Berries Everything needs to be washed first, then dried before the bag and freezing process.
Tree of Berries Every year it's something new, this year it's the amazing mulberry tree.
MulBerries Dated and ready for the deep freezer.
Strain Berries Next comes the final cleaning and drying process.
Kale Ordinary lettuce is not as resilient as Kale, I've grown to love this stuff.
Tree Full of Berries I have to use a ladder to get all but the tippy-tops (I leave that area for the wild neighborhood birds to eat)
Random Image There's too much to bother descibing in this photo.
September 6, 2022 preparation of new array and battery bank. This particular controller will take over the processing of energy from the bus solar arrays.
Porch Lighting This has changed since the photo was taken (it's much better now and has an upgraded photosensor and motion-sensors to activate only at night and only when there's motion).
This is me This is a photo of me, but it was supposed to be a video explaining my plans (so I talked to myself for about 15 minutes following the taking of this image. I should have taken the photo of what I looked like when I realized how much time was wasted).
Washing Grapes after harvest There is no way to eat all of the grapes as they mature on the vine due to a number of factors. To eliminate waste, freezing grapes for later enjoyment is an easy remedy and preservation must. After bagging up the cleaned grapes, pop them into the freezer so you'll have a supply of grapes during the winter months. Smoothies; add grapes, honey, water (and blend).
Pallet Shed made with scraps This shelter was made with junk that either would have been thrown away (or was otherwise getting in the way). It is comprised of leftover corrugated steel and some old wooden pallets (functional but not pretty).
More Solar on Mom's Porch The orientation and number of solar panels on this porch has changed numerous times due to spontaneous "great" ideas of new experiments or projects. Presently, there are a total of eight solar panels supplying energy to a small 12v battery consisting of 360ah. Seen in the image are two 100 watt (foreground), four 120w (background), and two 100watt installed on the East side of the home (not shown).
