When assessing what to do about time-consumers, your email provider should not become your stumbling block from attaining better goals in life.
If your email provider is constantly sending you notifications about everything you didn't remember doing, usually resulting in a non-productive tail-spin to change passwords and succumb to other manipulations (such as giving your cellphone's microphone address to be allowed to access your own account...for security reasons), then it's time to try fishing in another pond.
Let's contrast email providers, shall we?
Helpful Search-Engine Hint
Yandex, the number 2-rated email provider, is actually an A+ search engine, despite my rating left in the video.
Protonmail (even the free version) has shown to have more consideration to our personal privacy.
And as a final note on bettering your search results, if you find that Google results are no longer credible as they once were, try yandex search engine results using the same search-terms, you might be surprised.
Wikipedia will help you to understand what's going on, but I'll try to summarize the government-sponsored conspiracy against its citizens as succinctly as possible here. 
1.) First there was only the U.S. as purveyors to subverting private communications. 
2.) Then 4 other countries joined up to also monitor its citizens communications (hence the title, Operation Five Eyes) 
. Unchecked, this lawlessness was inevitable.
3.) Later other Nations would "join" in the free-for-all and become Operation Nine Eyes
4.) And still later the operation would expand to include other counties and become Operation 14 Eyes which leave no defense to maintain some privacy. 
Plus the U.S. makes 14 countries.
