Steps need tweaking

The Steps are ugly

The existing concrete steps have sunken at the point of last step causing the top step to be almost 8" (as opposed to the roughly 5" of the other steps). The remedy to even the height in steps was to increase base mortar of the topmost riser so that all of the steps become uniform.

June 2024 porch wall fiasco

One thing led to another and before long we were walking around the house to find things to change.

BeforeWall before

This project was completed in a matter of hours (4 or 5 depending if cigarette breaks count).

During Wall during

AfterWall after

My sister and mom did not care for the looks of natural stone installed in the fashion I chose.

The wall shown above was torn down a few days later

You might presume that the wall was easily removed, it was not! I attribute the super strength semi-cured mortar to the white solution purchased at home depot in the masonry section. It's an additive that results in a really solidly adhered veneer. Until recently, because someone else was paying for it, I had no idea that the product actually did what it says on the label (but I'm a believer now).

So I quickly went to Plan B and seized the moment to get my sister to help remove the ugly wall (I had her right where she couldn't say no). And besides, she asked if she could help.

Injuries! Oh no.

Oh my God, Already! So then my sister became injured and off I went to get a camera!

She started out with, "oh you want a picture of my injury, now where did I put it?" (looking between one hand, then the other). "Oh wait, maybe that's it!", there was nothing so she went back to inspect the left hand again.

Anyway I was back at the wall by myself but the wall was removed just in the nick of time (rain).

"Thou shalt not kill" echoed against the backdrop of female chatter but it was no use, now my sister and mom wanted me to remove 4 large bushes (scroll up this page to the image with a red arrow indicating the previously living).

Ugly Wall afterSEE, Bad idea! Now look at the ugly that exposes itself.

So now the "plan" is to continue the wall around the corner using a different product.Laying out Cultured Stone

Porch wall 2

And then the project evolved to include the top porch walls also
