Installation of new Rock Gate Column

Stone Column Installed

Although the previous welded gate made from spare parts has served adequately for about a decade, the gate has fallen into disrepair and must be replaced.

Indicated by the arrow is the old gate, to the left of the arrow is the completed replacement, but pretend you can't see it yet.Stone Column is Installed

Originally this was going to simply become a round concrete column utilizing the yellow Home Depot cardboard form.

The form totally failed and I'm glad it did.

Quick thinking is what prompted me to locate an old Bee Box and scoop up what I could to create the square above-ground base. This created an integral footer / stem wall to the concrete that was in the ground.Rock Gate and Column Installed

2025 Alteration

There is a VERY tall steel pole that has been added on top of the column in 2025. The reason the pole was added was to keep our gardening hose off of the grass and high enough to allow the tractor to drive under.

The pole was actually planned in advance which is why in one of the initial building stage is seen a pole in the center of some rebar (so the pole I added fits inside of the pole that was embedded into the concrete footer).

While out there it was decided to doll up some of the joints with my new nifty reverse concave jointer.
