Having endured the elements of the seasons for unknown numbers of years, the bench had become broken.
However, two of the replacement boards needed replacement again due to unacceptable deformities.
(When purchasing your replacement wood, make certain that you inspect the quality of the wood before you pay for it).
Add new stain and paint.
This phase was mom's department. She handled cleaning and painting the wrought iron as well as the priming and staining of the wooden slats.
Mom delivers hot food, too!
Seen in the photo are a visible knot in the bottom wooden slat. As it turned out, two pieces of replacement wooden slats required twice being replaced due to bad wood. 
When purchasing your new wood, be attentive to any bows, fallen-out knots, splitting at the ends, and anything else that might hinder the successful replacement.
